The taste of red king crab is succulent and sweet. The meat is snow-white after cooking, with highlights of bright red. Throughout the year, this sumptuous treat is available in premium restaurants and supermarkets.
Blue king crab (Paralithodes platypus)
Blue king crab is amongst the largest crabs in the world, known for its sweet meat and gigantic claws. The largest of king crab can grow a leg span of 6 feet across and weigh over 20 pounds. When alive, they are iconically adorned with royal blue patterns on their shells, which turns bright orange when cooked.
Taste-wise, blue king crab is typically sweeter than red king crab, but also milder in flavour than red. These crabs are sumptuous treats that are available in the market all year.
