LEMONGRASS

Lemongrass or lemon grass (Cymbopogon citratus) is a plant belonging to the grass tribe which is used as a spice in the kitchen to scent food. Lemongrass in English is known as Lemongrass. Lemongrass at a glance is similar to leek plants. This plant originates from the Ceylon region, Sri Lanka which then spreads and grows naturally in tropical countries. Plant characteristicsLemongrass grows in clumps forming big waves. This fragrant plant is cultivated in yards, fields, and between other plants. This plant is divided into two groups, namely lemongrass or citronella (Cymbopogon citratus DC) and citronella or citronella (Cymbopogon nardus DC). Flowering time from January to December.

This plant has a height between 50-100 centimeters with leaves reaching 70-80 centimeters long and 2-5 centimeters wide. The roots are short and light brown in color. The leaves are single leaves with frayed apes. The edges of the leaves are rough and sharp, the veins are parallel, and the upper and lower surfaces are hairy. The leaves wrap around the upright stems and are white. If the leaves are crushed, it will smell a distinctive odor. Lemongrass is a plant that belongs to the grass family. This plant is known as Lemongrass because it has a strong smell like lemon, often found growing naturally in tropical countries. In Indonesia, there are 2 types of citronella plants, namely citronella (Cymbopogon citratus) and citronella (Cymbopogon nardus L.).

Based on the research conducted, the essential oil content contained in lemongrass is 0.25%. The results of testing the essential oil content carried out on lemongrass powder drinks were 0.1%. Lemongrass has a fairly sharp aroma because it contains essential oils with the main components citronellol and geraniol.
