Coir chips are made from smaller-sized coconut husk pieces, cut into sizes ranging from 3 to 18 mm. These husk pieces are washed to reduce their electrical conductivity (EC) and then compressed using hydraulic machines into 4.5 kg sizes, each weighing 600 grams.
