Part of the Exceptional Single Cask series from The Macallan, this single cask release was distilled in January 1997 and matured for more than 22 years in a European oak sherry butt. The cask was reserved in April 2019 by Sarah Burgess for inclusion in the prestigious ESC series. Bottled in August of that year at a natural cask strength of 56.7 abv, just 606 bottles have been produced.
The nose has sweet cherry and oak notes, with vanilla, ginger spice and figs all emerging. The palate brings a sweet raisin influence from the sherry butt, with an oak spice and nutmeg complementing ginger and chocolate notes. The finish is medium length with oak spice developing into a lingering sweetness.
