Halloumi is officially recognized worldwide as a distinctive cheese indigenous to Cyprus. It is a white semi-hard cheese with a distinctive layered texture, made from sheep and/or goatâs milk, which can also be blended with cowâs milk.Â
To be considered as authentic halloumi, its production must take place exclusively within the Territory of the Republic of Cyprus. Â Producers of Halloumi PDO must conform with the requirements of the applicable Regulations and hold a certificate based on the approved âControl and Certification Plan for the use of Protected Designation of Origin Halloumi PDO.
