Glial or glial cells, are very different from nerve cells. The major difference is that glial doesn’t participate openly in electrical signaling and synaptic interactions, however, their supportive functions help control the signaling capabilities of neurons and define synaptic contacts. Glia are greater in number than the nerve cells in a brain. Even though glial cells have complicated processes ranging from their cell bodies, they are usually smaller than neurons, and they are short of dendrites and axons. Typically, here are three kinds of glial cells in the central nervous system: oligodendrocytes, astrocytes, and microglial cells. Astrocytes are restricted to the spinal cord and brain, and have rich local processes that give the glial cells a star like appearance.
