Lithium sulfate is mainly used as a raw material for special high-density glass, an analysis reagent, as well as for

rmacy and the production of the food additive and synthetic beverages additives. It can also be used as the

essential raw materials for producing other lithium compounds with high-purity.

Lithium sulfate, with the formula Li2So4 and molecular weight of 109.94. is the colorless monoclinic crystal system or white crystaler, soluble in water, insoluble in acetone and anhydrous ethanol. The water solubility at 25°C is 25.7%. It has the effect of treating manic-depressive psychosis. In the shape of colorless monoclinic crystal, Lithium sulfate loses water of crystallization at 130°C . It is soluble in 2.6 parts of water, almost insoluble in ethanol. The water solution is neutral. Lithium sulfate has a relative density of 2.06 and a melting point of 859°C.It is half lethal dose (oral in mice) of 1190 mg/kg. There are three crystal forms: α, β, γ. The type α is white monoclinic crystal system, the type β is hexagonal crystal system and the type γ is cubic crystal system. It is hygroscopic. Monohydrate Lithium sulfate crystallized from fortified aqueous is very stable.
