As long as tile floors are installed correctly and properly sealed, cleaning and care remains easy. Use a damp cloth and a soft broom to clean the immediate spills and dirt, and then follow up with a weekly vacuum or dust mop. Schedule a deep clean every two to three months and be sure to clean the grout between the tiles. Tiles, and any sealant or finish used, can be damaged by abrasive or chemical cleaning products like bleach and ammonia. Avoid using these products whenever possible.
If you see crumbling grout or spot a broken or buckling tile, repair or replace the area immediately. Grout and tile that has been damaged can, if left unchecked, end up affecting the entire floor. Re-sealing your grout regularly is key if you want to preemptively avoid the majority of issues. For high-traffic or high-use areas like showers or mudrooms, aim to re-seal the grout at least once every year. Doing this will mean youâll only have to replace the grout entirely every 15 years or so.
