the same height as the back of the sofa. Early Chesterfields were usually ulstered in leather, with
button tufted backs. Fabric ulstery became common by the turn of the 20th Century. All our
chairs and sofas are built in the traditional manner using experienced craftsmen
and the finest quality materials. All frames are solid beech and hand finished. Legs are polished and hand
waxed providing a rich texture. Seats and backs have double cone springs sewn to jute webbing
throughout, fixed at the waist and the top to maintain balance and support. A cane edge is formed to
stabilize the front of the seat, the top cover is fixed and stitched over an insulation/padding of rubberized
hair and cotton felt prior to covering. Castors are solid brass with ceramic wheels in brown or white.
Legs are turned or tapered or bun feet. All materials conform to British Standard Regulations
