Function
ITPP is a membrane-permeant allosteric regulator of haemoglobin oxygen binding affinity; it increases the amount of oxygen released by red blood . By lowering the binding affinity of haemoglobin for oxygen ITPP significantly shifts the oxygenâhaemoglobin dissociation curve.
This oxygen-releasing effect has the potential to counteract hypoxia-mediated angiogenesis and the progression of some cancers.
ITPP significantly increased the maximal exercise capacity of normal mice and mice with heart failure. Taken orally, it increased exercise capacity 35%; 60% when the compound was taken intravenously
