What is a rotary melting furnace ?

Rotary metal melting furnaces are devices that are used to melt and cast metals such as lead, zinc, tin, cast iron, silver, copper, gold and… in different quantities. Lead and zinc processing plants usually use these furnaces to melt and cast metals into molds.

These furnaces are made of horizontal pipes with different diameters and lengths, depending on the tonnage required by the factory, which rotate slowly around the horizontal axis and are insulated with cement or refractory bricks of chamotte, aluminum, or magnesium.

Depending on the function and the metal to be melted, the design of rotary kilns is different. For example, furnaces in zinc ingot smelting plants use open-top, non-conical rotary smelting furnaces to prevent excess oxygen from entering the furnace and to prevent metal oxidation on the melt. In lead smelting and casting plants, lead from Open and conical double-headed furnaces are used.

How it works?

The fuel used in rotary smelting furnaces can be methane, diesel, fuel oil or a combination of diesel and methane (to reduce the amount of oxygen entering the furnace, increase soot and reduce carbon production and reduce the oxidation of molten material, Especially in casting, materials with low boiling points such as lead, cadmium, and zinc are used.
