What is a multistage pump?

A multi-stage pump is a pump that contains different stages within the piping system where force is applied to the water. Each stage consists of one impeller as well as its accompanying diffusion components. The term “multistage” is usually used in reference to centrifugal pumps.

In many cases, multi-stage pumps are referred to in terms of how many stages they contain. For example, a pump with four stages might be referred to as a four-stage pump, or one with 10 stages would be referred to as a ten-stage pump.

How do multi-stage pumps work?

The idea behind multistage pumps is fairly simple. In many industrial and fluid treatment facilities, it’s necessary for fluids to be moved large distances with higher pressure. In many of these situations, the only way to achieve this higher pressure is with more than one impeller. What are the differences between multi-stage pump and the other pumps?

Multistage centrifugal pump can lift the water much more over 125m while single-stage centrifugal pump max head is 125m. The multi-stage pump is mainly used for mine drainage, urban and factory water supply, and the agricultural irrigation is very few. Relative to piston pump, diaagm pump and other reciprocating pump, multistage centrifugal pump can also pump large flow. The high efficiency of the multi-stage centrifugal pump can meet the needs of high lift and high flow conditions, and has been widely used in petrochemical, chemical, electric, construction, fire and other industries.

D types of multi-stage centrifugal pumps are used for transmission of clean water temperature below 80 degree Celsius or similar sical and chemical liquid. Suitable for mining, mill and city water pump supply and drainage.

They are single suction, horizontal segmental multi-stage pumps with level inlet entrance and vertical outlet. Usually they can connect with submersible pump and vacuum pump to increase the suction head lift. Compare to the other kind of pumps, multi-stage centrifugal pumps are cheaper and with high head, large capacity.

Structure and Material:

Multi-stage centrifugal pumps are consisted by stator and rotor.

Stator: 2 Bearing Brackets, suction casing, stage casing (middle casings), discharge casing, diffusers, end cover.

Rotor: Bearings, Shaft, impellers, Sleeves, balance components (balancing disk, balancing ring, balancing sleeve)

Pump shaft is supported in anti-friction bearings. Enclosed impellers are of radial flow type.

Motor suggested: Y series or YB series 3 se, 380V, 50Hz of electric motor

Coupling options: Jaw coupling or Elastic dowel pin shaft coupling

Bearing options: China brand bearings, NSK bearings etc.

Shaft Sealing options: mechanical seal or packing seal

Base-plate: common base-plate or pump’s own base-plate

Usually D/D(P) types of multi-stage centrifugal pump used for transmission of water free of solid particles and temperature below 80℃, or similar sical and chemical liquid. Suitable for mining, mill and city water supply and drainage.

DF/DF (P) types of multi-stage centrifugal pump are used for transmission of corrosive liquid with temperature range of -20℃ ~ 105℃ and non-solid particles. We will produce according to the gravity, density, working temperature and the suction pressure of the fluid.

DY/DY (P) types of multi-stage centrifugal pump used for transmission of non-solid oily liquid and petroleum product with temperature range of -20℃ ~ 105℃ and viscosity less than 120cst.

MD/MD (P) types of multi-stage centrifugal pump used for transmission of neutral liquid from mining well or other similar liquid. The density and size of the particles of the sewage shall be less than 1.5% and 0.5mm respectively. The temperature range of the sewage shall be -20℃ ~ 80℃.

DG/DG (P) types of multi-stage centrifugal pump used for low and medium pressure hot water transmission, also named as boiler feed pump. Temperature ranges from -20℃ ~ 150℃.

All the max suction pressure shall be 0.6Mpa.
