The Zaghloul brothers started a small sweets factory in 1968. This was the first step to enter the food sector. Within a few years, one of the brothers realized the shortage of suppliers for raw materials for sweets and confectionery manufacturers. Hence, National Marketing Center (NMC) was founded in 1976 in Port Said Public Free Zone in order to address these needs. Soon, it became one of the main importers of nuts, sugar, edible seeds, pulses and other commodities in the Egyptian market.

In 1980s, National Marketing Center became the main supplier for sugar for Pepsico, Coca-Cola, Cadbury and many manufacturers in the market. Also, NMC was the major supplier for edible melon seeds to the Egyptian market.

Due to change in regulations, the import business has been switched to a sister company, Zaghloul Enterprise, while the facility in National Marketing Center was used for storing the company’s products and seasonal packaging.

Over the years, the company decided to focus on the dried fruits and edible nuts business. Today, the Zaghloul family is considered the oldest active importer in this business. The family name has always been associated with the top quality in the business.

In 2007, a new facility was built for manufacturing, cleaning, sorting and packaging of rice and pulses using top of the line production lines. Shahy, a new premium consumer brand, was introduced to the Egyptian market. In a very short period, the new brand became available in all major retailers in the market. Afterwards, new export markets were successfully penetrated such as the USA, UAE, Lybia, Jordan, Lebanon and others.

In 2021, in cooperation with El-Kasem, after a successful penetration to the Egyptian market, NMC and its’ sister company became the sole distributor in Africa for Adams Zaytoona olive oil. Adams Zaytoona was originally founded in Syria in 1990 then later moved to Turkey. The products are known for their high quality and consistency. Adams products are now available in many countries in the MENA region, Asia, North America, South America and Australia.
