In general, organic methods avoid the use of synthetic products, such as pesticides, herbicides, and artificial fertilizers. Organic food producers are obliged to use only certain authorized agrochemicals, and transgenic seeds or plants cannot be used for their production. Organic crops are usually fertilized with compost, mineral powders and other substances of organic origin. Among the agricultural methods traditionally used are the system of terraces or natural barriers to prevent soil erosion, crop rotation or planting of legumes. They can also present other qualities such as eco-friendly packaging for disposal to the final consumer.
