Ebony wood, species Diospyros Crassiflora, (sometimes also referred to as zebrawood) is the most expensive, rarest, and most
exotic type of wood in the world. Ebony is a dense black/brown hardwood, most commonly yielded by several genus Diospyros species, which also contains the persimmons. Ebony is dense enough to
sink in water. It is finely-textured and has a mirror finish when polished, making it valuable as an ornamental wood. The unbuttressed, slender bole may reach a height of 16 to 20 m. It is
cylindrical and straight or slightly crooked, without a swollen base. The trunk diameter attains 70 to 100 cm. Other names include Ebene, African Ebony, West African Ebony, Dongo, Alom, Dubima, Ga.
