HRB500 is a type of hot-rolled ribbed grade IV steel bar specified in the national standard GB1499.2-2018 "Hot rolled ribbed steel bars for reinforced concrete". Originally known as grade IV steel bar, it has a yield strength of not less than 500Mpa and a diameter generally between 6-100mm. The national mandatory standard GB1499.2-2018 "Hot rolled ribbed steel bars for steel reinforcement" will be implemented from November 1, 2018. The new standard replaces GB1499-2007 "Hot rolled ribbed steel bars for reinforced concrete" and GB13014-1991 "Heat treated steel bars for reinforced concrete". Compared with the original standard GB1499-2007, the IV grade steel bars in the old standard have been renamed as HRB500 grade steel bars under the new standard. The grade of hot-rolled ribbed steel bars consists of HRB and the minimum yield point of the grade. H. R and B are the first letters of the English words Hotrolled, Ribbed, and Bars, respectively. In the "Code for Design of Concrete Structures" (GB50010-2010), the Chinese name of HRB 500 (Hot Rolled Ribbed Steel Bar) is Hot Rolled Ribbed Steel Bar, formerly known as Grade 4 Screw Reinforcement, with a yield strength of not less than 500Mpa and a circular cross-section, used as steel for ribbed concrete structures. In GB/T 1499.2-2018 "Hot rolled ribbed steel bars for reinforced concrete", steel bars are classified into yield strength grades of 400, 500, and 600 Mpa, and are classified into two series based on production control status: hot-rolled steel bars and controlled rolled fine-grained steel bars. Hot rolled steel bars refer to the original standard grade of HRB series steel bars, while the controllable rolled fine-grained steel bars of the new grade series are HRBF. According to three strength grades and two grade series, this standard has a total of nine steel bar grades, including HRB400, HRB500, HRB600, HRB400E, HRB500E and HRBF400, HRBF500, HRBF400E and HRBF500E. HPB235 is a first grade steel reinforcement (mostly referring to round steel and ordinary round steel), modern HPB300; HRB335 and HRBF335 are secondary steel bars; HRB400, HRBF400, and RRB400 are grade three steel bars; HRB500 and HRBF500 are grade four steel bars; HRB600 is a fifth grade steel reinforcement.
