Custom Cables The natural marine environment is very different from the terrestrial environment. Due to the salt content of seawater and strong ultraviolet (UV light), the service life of offshore equipment is generally much lower than that of land equipment. In addition, due to the high work intensity on ships and offshore oil platforms, high-strength cables are required. Ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) fiber is very suitable for the marine environment for the following reasons: First, the fiber has high strength and modulus. The tensile strength of the fiber is 15 times that of steel wire rope and 40% higher than that of aramid fiber. The specific strength is 2.6 times higher than carbon fiber, 1.7 times higher than aramid fiber, and 4 times higher than nylon 66. Secondly, UHMWPE fiber has strong resistance to chemical corrosion and UV resistance, and its mechanical properties will not decrease in contact with seawater or exposed to sunlight for a long time. Finally, due to the low fiber density (0.97g/cm3), it is easy to float on the water.
