Nitrofurans, which are effective against a wide range of bacteria, include furazolidone, furacilin, furantoin and furaltadone. The food and drug administration has prohibited all uses of nitrofuran drugs in food-producing animals because they pose a public health risk. Evidence indicates that the drugs may induce carcinogenic residues in animal tissues. Semi-quantitative analysis Compare the sample average absorbance values with standards values, the SEM concentration in the samples can be concluded. For example, if the concentrations of the standards are 0ppb, 0.05ppb, 0.15ppb, 0.45ppb,1.35ppb and 4.05ppb, their absorbance are 2.523, 2.217, 1.566, 0.842, 0.387 and 0.145, while the absorbance of the diluted samples are 0.569 (sample A) and 1.725 (sample B). Thus the concentration range for the diluted samples are derived, i.e. the concentration range of diluted sample A is 0.45ppb-1.35ppb and diluted sample B is 0.05ppb-0.15ppb (see the table 1). The real concentration range of SEM in the sample equals the concentration of diluted samples multiply by dilution factor. Table 1. Quantitative analysis (1)     The calculation of absorbance value (%) Absorbance value (%) equals average sample/standard absorbance value(B) divided by average negative control (zero standard) absorbance value(B0) and multiplied by 100%. Absorbance value (%) =B/B0 X100% (2)  Standard curve graphing and result calculating Quantitative interpretation requires graphing the absorbance of the standards (Y axis) versus the standard concentration (X axis; lg) on semi-log graph paper. A straight line is drawn through the standard points and the absorbance values of diluted sample are located on the line. The corresponding point on the x axis is the concentration of the diluted sample. Thus the concentration of the sample is derived by concentration of the diluted sample multiply by its corresponding dilution factor.
