FRP REBAR - COMPOSITE CONSTRUCTION EQUIPMENT Conventional concrete structures are reinforced with standard or pre-stressed steel. The steel is initially protected against corrosion by the alkalinity of the concrete. However, in aggressive environments such as marine structures, bridges and garages exposed to de-icing salts, combinations of humidity, temperature and chloride reduce the alkalinity of concrete. These conditions lead to corrosion of the reinforcing steel and deterioration of the concrete.
