Manganese Sulphate Monohydrate BP Ph Eur Grade MnSO4-H2O DEFINITIONContent99.0 per cent to 101.0 per cent (ignited substance). CHARACTERSAppearancePale pink crystalline powder, slightly hygroscopic. SolubilityFreely soluble in water, practically insoluble in ethanol (96 per cent). IDENTIFICATIONA. Solution S (see Tests) gives reaction of sulphates. B. Dissolve 50 mg in 5 ml of water. Add 0.5 ml of ammonium sulphide solution. A pale pink precipitate is formed which dissolves on the addition of 1 ml of anhydrous acetic acid. C. Loss on ignition (see Tests). TESTSSolution SDissolve 10.0 g in distilled water and dilute to 100 ml with the same solvent. Appearance of solutionSolution S is not more opalescent than reference suspension. ChloridesMaximum 100 ppm. IronMaximum 10 ppm, determined on solution S. ZincMaximum 50 ppm. Heavy metalsMaximum 20 ppm. Loss on ignition10.0 per cent to 12.0 per cent, determined on 1.00 g at 500 ± 50C.
