The first GALA APPLES tree was one of many seedlings resulting from a cross between a Golden Deliciousand a Kidd's Orange Red planted in
New Zealand in the 1930s. Many sports of Gala have been selected, mostly for increased red color, including the popular Royal Gala apples.
Gala apples are covered in a thin yellow to orange skin, highlighted with pink to red stripes that vary in hue dependent upon the apples maturity. Their dense flesh is creamy yellow
and crisp, offering a mildly sweet flavor and flora aroma. Gala’s that are allowed to reach the peak of their sweetness on the tree will have a deeper red hue and a slightly sweeter flavor.
With a mildly sweet flavor and long availability window, this apple is one of today’s most popular varieties.Royal Gala apples have a thinner skin when compared
