Magnesium Sulfate Heptahydrate White fine acicular or oblique columnar crystals. Odorless and bitter, easily weathered in dry air. The specific gravity is 1.68. Soluble in water, slightly soluble in ethanol and glycerin. It dissolves in its own crystallization water at 67.5°C. It decomposes when heated, and loses four molecules of crystal water at 70-80°C. At about 200°C, it loses all crystal water and becomes anhydrous. Uses: Mainly used in the manufacture of fertilizers, tanning, printing and dyeing, catalysts, papermaking, plastics, porcelain, pigments, matches, explosives and fireproof materials. It can be used for printing and dyeing thin cotton cloth and silk, as a weighting agent for cotton silk and as a filler for kapok products; it is used as Epsom salt in medicine.
