The graphic card market shortage
The graphic card market is experiencing a shortage on graphic cards. A graphic card shortage refers to an increase in graphic cards' selling price and a decrease in graphic cards' purchase volume. The following graphic shows the bitcoin miners for sale chart from May 1, 2018 to July 7, 2018. As shown by the chart below, mining difficulty increased significantly in late June, leading to graphic card shortages. Some graphic card miners thought that graphic cards could still be bought at the bitcoin mining machine online shop even if they were twice as expensive. However, on May 11, 2018, this bitcoin mining machine shop announced on its official website that it had stopped selling graphic cards due to graphic card shortages. Similarly, another graphic card online shop stopped selling graphic cards due to graphic card shortages. In early July, graphic card shortages have been resolved and graphic cards are available for purchase. In addition, bitcoin miners were activated on July 5, 2018, leading to shortage of graphic cards in the bitcoin mining machine market. Though graphic card shortages have been resolved at present, graphic card shortages may occur again in the graphic card market. Therefore, graphic cards for sale must be purchased immediately if interested. The China-US Trade War led graphic cards' outflow to increase significantly due to the losses that graphic card manufacturers incurred during May and June. The graphic card price has also increased significantly because demand exceeded supply even though smart phones and servers have adopted graphic cards extensively. As a result, graphic card manufacturers' revenue has decreased significantly due to graphic card price increases, which led graphic card suppliers to reduce their inventory of graphic cards in July 2018. Smart phones are one of the main application areas for graphic cards, but smart phone shipments decreased in Q2 2018 because of the shortage of graphic cards. In this context, graphic card manufacturers have been evaluating whether to further reduce their graphic card inventories due to the smart phone shipment decrease in Q2 2018.In addition, graphic card prices also increased in previous years when the bitcoin price increased. As a result, graphic card vendors were unable to sell graphic cards at an appropriate price when graphic card prices increased in response to the bitcoin prices in May and June 2018. Therefore, graphic card vendors sell graphic cards in small quantities for a limited time at higher prices than usual due to graphic card shortages after graphic card inventories were reduced.Because of the graphic card inventory reduction, graphic cards are sold at two times or more times the normal price. Bitcoin miners for sale, graphic cards that are suitable for bitcoin mining, and graphic cards that are suitable for monero mining have been sold since July 5, 2018. In particular, graphic cards referred to as graphic card-monero (GMO) miners were easy to sell during this period because of their high performance in mining monero.
