Rosa damascena, known as the Damask rose, is a pink rose hybrid, a woody perennial flowering plant in the Rosa genus, Rosaceae family, native to Asia, Europe, North America, and north-western Africa. Rose petals are used to make Rosewater, and to flavour sweets and confectionery in a of cuisines, in particular in the Middle East. They are also the defining ingredient in the Moroccan spice mix Ras el Hanout. The buds contain vitamin C, though not in such high levels as seen in Rosehips, as well as polynols â antioxidants that can help to support the immune systems, in similar amounts to those found in green tea. Rosebud tea also provides a high concentration of antioxidants and has been shown to offer some relief for menstrual pain.
