UTM: Universal Transport Medium, is a room temperature stable viral transport medium for collection, transport, maintenance and long term freeze storage of Viruses, such as Influenza H1N1, Chlamydia, Mycoplasma, Urea plasma specimens and most recently, Covid-19. UTM has been used successfully for Rapid Antigen Testing, DFA, Viral Culture and for Molecular-based Assays.
- Â VTM: Viral Transport Medium, allows the safe transfer of viruses, chlamydia and mycoplasma for further research, including conventional culture methods, diagnostic tests, and molecular biology techniques. Antibiotics are usually incorporated into the viral transport media to suppress the growth of contaminating bacteria and fungi, so separate samples from the same site should be collected if bacterial or fungal cultures are also requested.
-  MTM​: ​Molecular Transport Medium, is a reagent based medium, specifically designed & optimized for the safe collection, transport & processing of viral samples. This medium works by preserving and stabilizing the labile DNA & RNA whilst inactivating the infectious biological pathogens including the virus & gram positive/negative bacteria. Unlike traditional mediums, MTM contains reagents for the inactivation of nucleases which allows for obtaining optimal results in terms of turnaround time, sensitivity, specificity, precision & reproducibility. Moreover, the risks of getting infected during handling of the sample are also reduced to a minimum with this medium as an inactivated sample is considered the safest.
What the different kinds of solution you provide and is guanidine a main component in your solutions ?
In our VTM, guanidinium thiocyanate, deactivates the nucleases, thereby stabilising the DNA, RNA, and protein. However we also have an alternative version without guanidine available. The 3 most commonly used solutions are listed here, kindly write to us for any customised requirements.
What is the VTM expiration date?
Per CDC protocol, the expiration date is set at one year from the date of manufacture.

Recommended storage and transportation is at 5-25°C
