Sommalife is a social enterprise that is impact-driven to create long-lasting wellbeing of women and their children in rural communities in the Upper West Region of Ghana.
Sommalife was founded with a daring and defiant mission: empower rural women out of poverty and inspire their children to dream.
Living and growing up in the Upper West Region of Ghana, Mawuse (CEO of Sommalife) has had the opportunity to interact with hardworking women who attempt different economic activities and yet remain poor. From farming, shea butter to pito production, these women and their households live on less than USD 3 daily.
Many women and youth keep fleeing to the cities and the remnants wallow in their situation. Unlike many who just complain or comment, Mawuse started designing a solution to this complex problem: Keep the women working, get them value for their efforts, and empower them to manage their income. Sommalife was born!
Today, Sommalife builds the capacity of rural women to produce high-value products, connect them to global markets, offer them financial inclusion and support for their children. Soon, all these operations will be connected using technology, then this life-changing mission which started in the Wa West District (*The poorest District in Ghana) of the Upper West Region, can be scaled to the millions of rural poor people in Ghana and beyond.
